Venture Philanthropy

From 2021 to 2024 Bright Pink was proud to operate as a Venture Philanthropy Fund, investing in helping to accelerate, deepen and expand the impact of the most cutting-edge breast and ovarian health interventions with 5 Mission Partners.

From 2021 to 2024, Bright Pink operated as a Venture Philanthropy Fund, investing in efforts to accelerate, deepen, and expand the impact of cutting-edge breast and ovarian health interventions with five Mission Partners. Each Mission Partner was selected for its alignment with our strategic priorities, leadership strength, data rigor, impactful program models, and commitment to equity. Together, we worked to co-design and catalyze health interventions focused on women at high or increased risk, particularly those facing barriers to care due to systemic racism, historical marginalization, and community disinvestment.

Our approach combined the rigor of venture capital with the mission of the non-profit sector. Through two Mission Partner cohorts, we provided capital investment and comprehensive capacity-building support—including leadership coaching, strategic workshops, program and evaluation design, digital marketing, and connections with key partners—to help these organizations achieve exponential growth in impact.

The Bright Pink Venture Fund leveraged our proven success and deep expertise to fund the next generation of groundbreaking breast and ovarian health initiatives. With our Mission Partners, we identified and addressed the unique systemic barriers faced by young women of color and those at higher risk due to genetics and family history. Together, we advanced health equity, reduced disparities, and ensured a brighter future for all young women.

Nueva Vida

Nueva Vida is a community organization providing culturally sensitive cancer support services to the Latino community in the Washington-Baltimore Metro area. Built on invaluable bonds of trust with their clients and supported by Bright Pink, Nueva Vida’s program De Madres a Hijas has educated 48 Latinas—24 first-generation mothers and 24 second-generation daughters—increasing knowledge and awareness about Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer (HBOC) risk. The program has empowered these women to discuss familial HBOC risk with relatives and develop action plans to make informed decisions about their health. With a strong foundation, Nueva Vida is currently in the process of expanding the program locally and in partnership with other Latina-serving organizations nationwide.

FORCE: Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered

As the preeminent voice for the hereditary cancer community, serving over a million people nationwide, FORCE has a long history of mobilizing volunteers, providers, and community partners to influence national legislation. With Bright Pink’s strategic support, FORCE has recruited, trained, and empowered a diverse group of patient advocates to engage in state-level public policy efforts aimed at reducing barriers to high-risk preventive care. These efforts have led to the passage of new state laws that increase access to essential health services and, in most cases, eliminate the financial burden of breast screening MRIs and diagnostic exams.

TOUCH, The Black Breast Cancer Alliance

TOUCH, The Black Breast Cancer Alliance, drives collaborative efforts among patients, survivors, advocates, healthcare professionals, researchers, and pharmaceutical companies to eradicate Black Breast Cancer. With Bright Pink’s support, TOUCH launched “For the Love of My Gurls,” a multi-faceted national campaign that has educated, equipped, and empowered 250,000 young Black women to take proactive steps in managing their breast health by educating on the Black Breast Health basics, encouraging women to regularly check in with their gurls/breasts, and gather their HERstory (family health history.)

The UCSF WISDOM Study

The WISDOM Study, led by Dr. Laura Esserman at UCSF, is a groundbreaking initiative involving 100,000 diverse women across the US, aimed at finding the safest and most effective ways to detect breast cancer for every woman. With Bright Pink’s help, WISDOM expanded its study to include women aged 30-39 and developed a breast screening communication campaign that empowered a diverse cohort of young women to join the study, learn their breast cancer risk, and contribute to better personalized breast healthcare.

Susan G. Komen Stand for H.E.R.- A Health Equity Revolution

Komen, the world’s leading breast cancer organization, launched Stand for H.E.R. – a Health Equity Revolution, a bold nationwide program aimed at decreasing the gap in breast cancer mortality between Black and white women, starting in the 10 U.S. metropolitan areas with the greatest disparities. Bright Pink supported Komen’s expansion of their Worship in Pink program, which now provides free genetic counseling and testing to at-risk Black women within trusted, faith-based institutions in Houston, one of the cities with the highest disparities nationwide.
